Where's the Recession?

The IT Show. Once a year it comes, but it isn't the only one each year. Each quarter there is one IT exhibition. In chronological order, they are: IT Show, PC Show, Comex, Sitex.

I'm into gadgets and electronics, so naturally I make it a point to go to each IT exhibition. It's not really an exhibition more than it is a sale of consumer electronics, and each exhibition is packed full with people. This time no different, and maybe even more than before. I saw people buying plasma and lcd televisions, others buying printers, and etc.

So well, I asked myself, where's the recession? The place is as full as before, you need to push and shove a bit to get around, and on my way out, which was just before the rush of office workers coming in at the end of the day to catch a few bargains before the fare closes (it is for 4 days btw), there was a huge congestion at the entrance:

It was almost stationary. That's what you get when an influx of people meet another big group going out.

It's interesting really. Crowds of people act like fluids when the crowd is big enough. Just check it out: When a crowd of people walk through an aperture, they spread out on the other end rather naturally like fluids. Movement also slows down before the aperture, and while passing through the aperture, the movement speeds up - Bernoulli's principle! When it's hot, people don't wanna be so close to each other, and so they spread out - expansion! When it's cold, the opposite occurs - contraction! People near the walls of a corridor move slower somehow - friction! And a fast moving crowd will make other people joining it also fast and vice versa - viscosity! Finally, in a stampede or any really fast moving crowds, they can't negotiate bends very well - momentum.

Maybe another exploration perhaps?
